Faculty mentors

“Faculty members like professors Michele Hancock and Mark Mahoney, and staff members like Endia McWhorter-Robbins play a huge role in shaping my life and career success at Carthage. They’ve pushed me out of my comfort zone, giving me opportunities to lead and showcase my abilities. Their support has shown me that anything is possible. The Computer Science Department ensures we’re well prepared for the real world through hands-on programming experience and gives us the confidence needed to succeed in the field.”

Favorite class

“I’ve enjoyed all my computer science classes, but the one that stands out the most is actually my acting class from freshman year. It gave me a space to relax, have fun, and fully immerse myself in the experience of acting.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class was definitely Discrete Structures. Math has never been my strongest subject, so understanding the concepts was challenging at first. But over time, I started to catch on and was able to push through and pass.”

Campus involvement

“I am involved in My Brother’s Keeper, serve as a peer coach, and work as a resident assistant. These experiences have been instrumental in shaping who I am today, allowing me to guide others, be a role model, and grow both personally and professionally.”

Golden opportunities

“I had the incredible opportunity to take a J-Term trip to South Africa, which was truly life-changing. The experience helped me see the purpose God has placed on my life, and being able to help others while immersing myself in a new culture deeply resonated with me.”

Internships or campus employment

“I currently work as a software developer at AbbVie, where I apply my computer science knowledge and leadership skills every day. I strive to embody AbbVie’s motto, ‘People, Passion, and Possibilities,’ which truly resonates with me. Having the opportunity to showcase my skills while contributing to meaningful projects is something I deeply value.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“My 8-year-old self would be completely shocked at everything I’m doing now. Coming from not having much to being in a position where I can inspire and impact younger generations is something I never could have imagined back then. Knowing that I can change lives and show teenagers that anything is possible is truly humbling. I’ve been incredibly blessed to achieve so much, and I’m grateful for every step of this journey.”
